The role will involve working alongside primarily the maintenance department but also includes exposure to both the operations and fuel handling teams, to gain a fuller understanding of the day to day operations and maintenance on the Biomass Power Plant.

You will report to the maintenance team leader and be mentored by another member of the team.

The key responsibilities and duties of this role are:

  • Understanding BWSC as a business.
  • Developing Health and Safety knowledge to work on a power station.
  • Developing self-confidence and communications skills to become an effective communicator and team player.
  • Developing day to day hands on skills in order to support the operations and maintenance of the site.

The site team is very small, so day to day contact will be with all member of the O&M team ranging from Fuel Handlers, Operators, QHSE and Management.


Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician pathway, which includes:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 2 Award for Foundation Phase Gateway Assessment
  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronic Maintenance Technician
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)

Our roots go back to 1872 with the famous Danish shipyard Burmeister & Wain, which started building and installing diesel engines in 1904. Applicants should hold a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent). These should include grades A*-C/9-5 (or equivalent) in maths, English, and a science.

GCSEs in Engineering (or equivalent) would also be desirable, but not essential.
