The kitchen is a busy operation offering a food service to over 700 students, staff and visitors to the college. The team is comprised of Chefs, and General Catering Assistants who are responsible for delivering high quality food, made from scratch.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of menu items as directed by the Sous Chef and/or Executive Head Chef
  • Assist in the development and planning of menus, including identifying future food trends and displaying a passionate approach towards the development of new styles of service and concepts
  • Assist with stock taking, when required
  • Contribute towards the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen
  • Ensure that customers are given a prompt and efficient service and expectations are consistently exceeded
  • Be customer focused at all times; approachable and quick to exceed expectations in fulfilling customer needs
  • Gain an understanding of food costing, sales mix and menu planning
  • Ensure stock, deliveries and wastage are all checked and recorded in line with company and food standards
  • Contribute towards own personal development with the guidance of the NVQ Trainer, Sous Chef and Executive Head Chef and attend training courses as identified
  • Undertake a Level 2 NVQ in Professional Cookery 

Health & Safety:

  • Adhere to the company’s Food Hygiene, Health and Safety and Environmental policies at all times
  • Ensure that food storage areas are maintained in accordance with the company’s Food Hygiene, Healthy and Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Promote the safety and well-being of pupils in accordance with the Trust’s Child Protection Policy and other relevant policies and undertake regular safeguarding/CP/Prevent training as required

Person Specification:

  • General Secondary Education (English and Math’s essential)

Desirable, but not Essential as full training will be given :

  • Food Hygiene Certificate 
  • Successful progressive background in the catering industry
  • Experience with Food Allergies, Special Diets and Labelling
  • Delivery of outstanding customer service                 
  • Craft skills background

Hospitality Production Chef L2

Maths & English functional skills L1/L2 if required.

EPA (End Point Assessment) in the last 3 months.
