Getting started

In Year 9 you will be making choices about what kind of courses and which subjects to study in Years 10 and 11. This will probably be the biggest decision you've made about your future so far but don't worry - you can get lots of help and advice.

You will need to choose which GCSE subjects you want to take and, depending on what your school offers, you may have a choice of other courses as well.

Learning is changing…
…what's available in your school?

Learning about work is becoming increasingly important. Maybe you think you'd prefer a more practical way of learning? Perhaps you already know what type of job you're interested in?

Schools in Norfolk have built closer links with colleges and work-based learning providers to offer you the chance to learn more about work in Years 10 and 11. You might hear this called Increased Flexibility, or Practical Learning Options (PLO) - it just means that your Year 10 and 11 programme may not necessarily all take place in school. Instead, you could go to college for one day a week and get a vocational qualification alongside your core GCSEs.

You may also have the chance to to take a Young Apprenticeship programme or one of the new Diplomas. Find out more about these before deciding.
