Applied A levels

Applied A levels (sometimes called Vocational A levels) are designed to develop your knowledge, skills and understanding in broad vocational areas and are an excellent preparation for further study or training.

Applied A levels cover areas such as science, IT, engineering, health and social care, business studies, leisure and tourism, art and design.

You can take a mixture of Applied A levels and more academic A levels at the same time. If you do this, remember that Applied A levels can have 2 different values:

  • Singles are worth the same as one A level.
  • Doubles are worth 2 A levels.

What about The Diploma?

Diplomas are going to replace Applied A levels. This will happen gradually over the next 4 or 5 years.

You can still take Applied A levels for now – but find out if there's an Advanced Diploma where you live in a line of learning you're interested in. You may prefer to choose The Diploma instead.
